Warming Up To The Cold

We are in the thick of winter now and enormous amounts of ice! It is officially cold now in Canada & parts of the USA. While being a hearty Canuck, I still find winter difficult. The driving, commuting, constant shovelling here in Montreal....can't seem to get used to it!

So we need to find ways to make this more comfortable. My favourite way to do that is by cocooning (it takes a team of horses to drag me out of the house some days) and snuggling with hot tea, hot chocolate and one of our fabulous throw blankets.

We have clients that buy one for almost every room in their house! So whatever chair, sofa or bed you end up on, cover yourself with our luxurious blankets.

Need a break? We all go for the coffee at some point in the day and it has become synonymous with being called a coffee break. Shake it up! Recently a friend gave me a fabulous and simple recipe for hot apple cider. It's the cheater's version - you don't have to go to the apple orchard and pick your own apples. Head to the store and buy some apple juice.

Recipe

  • 2 litres apple juice, preferably unsweetened, that's about 2 large cans
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 table spoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 orange cut into slices
  • juice from 1/2 lemon

Place all ingredients in a pot on medium heat. Bring to boil on high heat and immediately turn down heat to medium. Simmer for about 8 minutes. Let cool a bit, strain and enjoy! Add some rum if you like!

Don't forget your feet! Put them up and relax. Our selection of ottomans double as extra seating and are very convenient. Get yourself some super comfy socks too. If you have to be warm, you might as well be stylish!

Don't have a fireplace? Candles do the trick! Lending warmth and a beautiful glow, grab a book and settle in. As always, be careful around lighted candles :-)

Stay warm!
